About
Robberg Distillery
Robberg Distillery, situated along the Garden Route of South Africa in the town of Plettenberg Bay is a craft distillery that produces craft whiskies, gins and selected liquor.
Robberg Distillery is named after the Robberg Peninsula, a nature and marine reserve and a World Heritage Site.
Our love for spirits led to the establishment of our distillery at the coast and the creation of unique spirits.
Our distillery is situated close to the ocean, 50 m above sea level, with warm summers, mild winters and a constant sea breeze, providing the ideal location for the ageing of whisky.
Our Distillery
Situated on a small farm in the heart of Plettenberg Bay, everything is achieved by hand at our craft distillery and we love to create small batch spirits. Our whiskies are made from local grain and malt grind, fermented, triple distilled and aged in oak barrels in our cellar. We operate a 800L stripping still and a 500L spirit column still with the capacity to barrel 1000L of whisky per month, ageing in oak barrels.
Our gins are made from ENA alcohol and re-distilled in a 250L gin still with a selection of botanicals that give our gins their distinct flavours.
Bottling and labelling are done by hand and each bottle is labelled individually.

Our Gin
As a craft distillery we have the freedom to push the traditional gin industry on taste and style using local botanicals to create truly South African gin spirits. It is a fun undertaking and expands the boundaries of traditional gin distillation.
The inventions of new gins, uses of new botanicals, and forms of maturation are all part of the freedom unleashed by our pioneering spirits, creating the following gins:
– GIN MALAY: a gin infused with traditional Malay spices representing the traditional Cape Malay food, blended with honeybush, resulting in a smooth spicy gin.
– GIN OLIVE: a traditional dry gin infused with maturated olives from the Southern Cape region resulting in a typical dry gin with a unique olive taste.
Our Whisky
Our whiskies are made from locally selected grain and barley and matured in oak barrels. Our first whisky will be available in 2026 after the three-year barrel ageing period.
As a craft distillery, we only do batch distillation, allowing us to create the following whiskies:
– 100% single grain whisky providing a “bourbon” style whisky.
– 100% single barley whisky providing a more traditional Scotch whisky.
– “Single barrel” whisky.
– “Barrel strength” and “unfiltered’ whisky.
